Cuando Nueva España se transformó en un país republicano e independiente los nobles, que habían ostentado sus prerrogativas y privilegios, buscaron distintas vías para adaptarse a la nueva realidad. Algunos prefirieron salir de México pero otros transformaron el compromiso que antiguamente los había mantenido fieles a la corona española para contribuir a sacar adelante a la naciente nación. Pero a la menor oportunidad, buscaban la manera de lucir y demostrar aquellos rasgos que los colocaban en la cima de la sociedad novohispana y explayaban su distinción en los rituales y ceremonias.

When New Spain was transformed into an independent and Republican country, the ancient nobility, with their prerrogatives and privileges, sought ways to adapt to the new reality. Some preferred to leave Mexico, but others transformed their former loyalty to the Spanish Crown to help take forward the nascent nation. However, whenever they had a chance, they found a way to show off those traits, which placed them at the top of the ancient society and expatiated their distinction in rituals and ceremonies.
