El artículo presenta la caracterización de personajes tipo y el funcionamiento de la lírica tradicional en una obra dramática breve del siglo XVIII en la Nueva España. Se revisó la procedencia de los personajes en la tradición hispánica y su continuidad en la obra, a partir del análisis de gestos, tonos y movimientos ampliamente trabajados desde la perspectiva de la semiología de la obra dramática, por lo que ha sido posible encontrar rasgos del suelo americano refractados en este tipo de teatro. Se observó cómo la lírica tradicional se emplea en función de los personajes: para uno de ellos, particularmente, se emplea la tradición antigua, y para el resto se presentan rasgos de la tradición oral moderna.

The article presents the portrayal of stock characters and the functioning of the traditional lyric in a short dramatic work dating back to the XVIIIth century in New Spain. The characters’ backgrounds in the Hispanic tradition and their continuity throughout the work were reviewed based on the analysis of gestures, tones and movements widely studied from the semiotic approach of the dramatic work; hence features of the American land were found portrayed in this type of play. It was observed how traditional lyric is used according to each of the characters: for one of them, in particular, the ancient tradition is used, while the rest of them present features of the modern oral tradition.
