El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las particularidades de una sociedad dominada por el poder terrateniente de base agraria regional, propietaria y mercantil, bajo un contexto caracterizado, en la Argentina del siglo XIX, por el proceso de expansión territorial y productiva de la frontera, el traspaso de las tierras públicas a manos privadas, la incorporación de esas tierras al proceso productivo y la formación de estancias. Los propietarios de tierras -comerciantes, políticos, hacendados y militares- se convirtieron en el nuevo grupo dominante, cuyo núcleo de expansión empresarial fue la estancia-gran propiedad.

In this paper I propose to analyse the particular features of a society dominated by the landowner power of agrarian, regional, proprietary and mercantile base, in Argentina which was characterized, during the nineteenth century, by the process of territorial and productive expansion of the border, the transfer of public land to private hands, the incorporation of this lands into the productive process and the formation of estancias. The landowners (merchants, politics, hacendados and militaries) became the new hegemonic group, which has his center of expansion entrepreneur in the estate-large property.
