El presente trabajo plantea que, en un contexto de violencia extrema, las y los policías municipales de Tijuana responden a la incertidumbre laboral y vital mediante nociones de sentido común sedimentadas en la experiencia colectiva que ordenan sus prácticas cotidianas. A través de trabajo etnográfico, se encontraron tres nociones de sentido común que articulan tal incertidumbre, y que los policías llaman las tres garantías (3G): “En cualquier momento te pueden matar, en cualquier momento te pueden correr y en cualquier momento te pueden meter a la cárcel”.

This article posits that in a context of extreme violence, Tijuana’s police officers respond to job related tension and uncertainty through common sense notions embedded in the collective experience that structure their everyday practices. Through in-depth ethnographic research, three common sense notions were found that express this uncertainty, which police officers call the three guarantees (3G): “You can get killed at any time, you can get fired at any time, and you can go to jail at any time”.
