La corrupción es un fenómeno social situado y condicionado históricamente en lo que a estructura social y cultural se refiere. Por ello, es necesario enmarcar su análisis desde un enfoque que permita desvelar los procesos mediante los cuales se entroniza, naturaliza e invisibiliza en la sociedad. De ahí que este artículo se propone fundamentar los criterios que avalan a la sociología como una herramienta teórica coherente para el estudio de la corrupción, dada su capacidad para articular, desde una plataforma multidisciplinar, las diferentes dimensiones que la integran, a partir de demostrar el contenido socioestructural del fenómeno y los principales mecanismos a través de los cuales se produce y reproduce en el entramado social.

Corruption is a social phenomenon historically situated in a social and cultural structure. For this reason, the approach for analyzing it must be framed in a way that makes it possible to reveal the processes through which it is exalted, naturalized, and made invisible in society. That is why this article aims to establish the basis for the criteria that legitimize sociology as a coherent theoretical tool for the study of corruption, given its ability to articulate its different dimensions from a multidisciplinary platform. It does this by demonstrating the phenomenon’s socio-structural content and the main mechanisms whereby it is produced and reproduced in the social fabric.
