^les^aEn este artículo se efectúa una reflexión en torno a la obra Zapata and the Mexican Revolution del historiador estadunidense John Womack, Jr. El análisis se funda en el concepto de mitobistoria, el cual parte de la premisa de que todo gran relato histórico posee una estructura mítica. En consecuencia, se intenta identificar tales rasgos en el texto de Womack, sobre todo su construcción del estado de Morelos y de Emiliano Zapata, como espacio y como héroe míticos, respectivamente. Por otro lado, se arguye que tal tipo de construcción respondió a las corrientes intelectuales y políticas que permearon los estudios latinoamericanos en Estados Unidos en los años sesenta y setenta del siglo pasado.^len^aThis article contains a reflection on Zapata and the Mexican Revolution by US historian, John Womack, Jr. The analysis is based on the concept of myth-history, based on the premise that any great historical account possesses a mythical structure. The author therefore attempts to identify these features in Womack's text, particularly in his construction of the state of Morelos and Emiliano Zapata, as a mythical space and hero, respectively. At the same time, he argues that this type of construction reflected the intellectual and political trends prevalent in Latin American studies in the 1960s and 1970s.
