^les^aEste artículo describe la trayectoria en México de las primeras piezas y colecciones museográficas destinadas a la enseñanza, en el siglo XVIII, y su posterior consolidación y reubicación en las escuelas nacionales decimonónicas, hasta su proceso de institucionalización museológica dentro de la UNAM, ya en el siglo XX. Se resalta la revaloración de los acervos artísticos, naturales y científicos de la UNAM en sus dimensiones académica y museográfica, en el contexto nacional y en relación también con algunas influencias extranjeras. Esta visión panorámica del coleccionismo y los museos universitarios invita a un replanteamiento de su cuidado, uso, difusión y proyección tanto dentro de las instalaciones universitarias, como en relación con organismos internacionales especializados.^len^aIn this article, the author describes the trajectory of the first pieces and collections addressed to education, from its beginning in the 18th Century, through the consolidation and relocation phase in the 19th Century, and until its museologic institutionalization within the UNAM, in the 20th. The author highlights the reassessment of the artistic, natural and scientific heritage of the UNAM in its academic and museographic dimensions, at national level and compared with some foreign influences. This panoramic vision of collectionism and of the university museums is an invitation to raise again the question of the care they deserve, their spreading and their hold not only within the university facilities, but also in relation with specialized international organizations.
