^les^aEste artículo tiene como propósito explorar el proceso de surgimiento, adaptación, y cambio de las instituciones de la democracia mexicana y su articulación con contextos de alta desigualdad social. En él, se exploran cinco temas esenciales: 1) la argumentación teórica de la relación democracia- desigualdad social; 2) el cambio institucional del régimen autoritario hacia la democracia en dos planos de liberalización: el político y el económico; 3) el proceso de hibridación entre instituciones formales e informales mediante el cual ocurre la adaptación institucional de los actores; 4) los tipos de participación que fluyen a través de esta hibridación institucional y 5) el rendimiento social de las instituciones.^len^aThis article has as its goal to explore the process of upsurge, adaptation and change of the institutions of Mexican democracy and its articulation within the context of high social inequality. In it, five essential themes are explored: 1) the theoretical argumentation of the relationship democracy-social inequality; 2) institutional change of the authoritarian regime towards democracy in two planes of liberation: political and economical; 3) the hybrid process between formal and informal institutions that occurs through the institutional adaptation of the actors; 4) types of participation that flow through this institutional hybridization and 5) the social performance of the institutions.
