^les^aEn el estudio de la iconografía mesoamericana es necesario distinguir entre los íconos que remiten a la percepción sensorial de un objeto y los que apuntan a la aprehensión conceptual del mismo. Es frecuente encontrar la segunda clase de íconos en las representaciones de los componentes del aparato cósmico, entre ellas el Monte Sagrado o el Árbol Florido. En los monolitos mexicas conocidos con los nombres de Piedra de Tízoc y Piedra del Ex-Arzobispado existe un conjunto de glifos toponímicos. Uno de ellos, presente en ambos monumentos, rebasa este carácter, pues reproduce una escena mítica y representa en ella la ruptura del Eje Cósmico en forma de desgajamiento del Monte Sagrado. En este artículo se discuten las implicaciones iconográficas e históricas de este glifo.^len^aIn the study of Mesoamerican iconography we need to distinguish between icons that refer to the sensory perception of an object and those that denote a conceptual apprehension of it. Among the second class of icons we often find representations of the components of the cosmic apparatus, among them the Sacred Mountain or the Flowering Tree. In the Mexica monoliths known as the Tízoc Stone and the Stone from the old Archbishopric, there is a group of place-name glyphs. One of them, seen on both monuments, transcends this character, since it reproduces a mythic scene in which the rupture of the Cosmic Axis is represented in the form of the breaking apart of the Sacred Mountain. This article discusses the iconographic and historical implications of this glyph.
