^les^aEl ensayo analiza en qué forma la Constitución mexicana norma su principio básico de República democrática, cuáles son sus alcances, características y perfiles jurídicos. Con tal finalidad se hace un recorrido por la clasificación de las formas de gobierno para comprender mejor la evolución y las diversas formas de gobierno que México ha conocido desde 1821, resaltando sus singularidades para proponer una clasificación de las mismas, que permita conocer cómo fue que se llegó a la República democrática y a su reglamentación en las Constituciones mexicanas de 1857 y 1917. Asimismo, se desentraña el significado de República, sus alcances y su desarrollo en el constitucionalismo mexicano. Idéntico ejercicio se realiza con el concepto de democracia, y se hace énfasis en sus aspectos materiales, los cuales se ponen de relieve.^len^aThe essay's objective is to analyze how the Mexican Constitution fixes its basic principle of a Democratic Republic, which are their scopes, characteristics and legal profiles. For this purpose and elements that serve this examination, a path is made through the classification of government forms to better understand the evolution and various forms of government that Mexico has known since 1821, highlighting their uniqueness to propose a classification of the same design to show how the Democratic Republic and its regulation in the Mexican Constitution of 1857 and 1917 was reached. It also unravels the meaning of Republic, its scope and development in the Mexican Constitution. The same exercise is done with the concept of democracy and it is emphasized in material respects which are highlighted.
