El poder mecánico de la ventilación es un concepto que describe la compleja relación entre el aparato respiratorio y el ventilador mecánico en términos de entrega de energía. Este valor ha sido propuesto como meta de protección ventilatoria; sin embargo, debido a las características del paciente obeso, se teoriza que dicho valor puede verse influenciado en relación con el índice de masa corporal (IMC). Objetivo general: evaluar la correlación entre el índice de masa corporal y valor de poder mecánico en pacientes bajo ventilación mecánica en la unidad de cuidados intensivos de la UMAE 71.  Material y métodos:  se ejecutó un estudio observacional, prospectivo, de tipo correlación, en adultos bajo ventilación mecánica atendidos en la unidad de cuidados intensivos adultos (UCIA), del 01 de junio al 30 de agosto de 2024. Se incluyeron las siguientes variables de estudio: edad, género, IMC y poder mecánico. El tamaño de muestra (14 pacientes) se calculó mediante la fórmula de correlación simple en un grupo. Se evaluó el coeficiente de correlación r de Pearson entre IMC y poder mecánico.  Resultados:  se encontró una correlación entre el poder mecánico-IMC de 35% (p = 0.214); poder mecánico-talla se encontró una correlación de 85% (p &lt; 0.001), poder mecánico-presión resistiva 49% (p = 0.075), poder mecánico-presión pico 0.740 (p = 0.002), poder mecánico-volumen tidal 0.737 (p = 0.003).  Conclusión:  a pesar del fundamento teórico no se encontró correlación entre el IMC y el poder mecánico; sin embargo, el análisis de esta fórmula nos permite dilucidar que la talla es un factor con una alta correlación con el poder mecánico y nos lleva a cuestionar el valor de esta meta de protección pulmonar y su aplicabilidad en pacientes de nuestro medio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  obesity is a disease caused by an excess or abnormal distribution of adipose tissue, making up the main public health problem in Mexico. The mechanical power of ventilation is a concept that describes the complex relationship between the respiratory system and the mechanical ventilator in terms of energy delivery. This value has been proposed as a goal of ventilatory protection, however, due to the characteristics of the obese patient; It is theorized that this value may be influenced in relation to body mass index (BMI).  Objective:  to evaluate the correlation between body mass index and mechanical power value in patients under mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit of the UMAE 71.  Material and methods:  an observational, prospective, correlation-type study will be carried out in adults under mechanical ventilation treated in the adult intensive care unit (AICU), from June 01 to August 30, 2024. The following study variables will be included: age, gender, BMI and mechanical power. The Pearson r correlation coefficient between BMI and mechanical power will be evaluated.  Results:  a correlation was found between mechanical power-BMI of 35% (p = 0.214); mechanical power-height a correlation of 85% was found (p &lt; 0.001), Mechanical Power- Resistive pressure 49% (p = 0.075), mechanical power-peak pressure 0.740 (p = 0.002), mechanical power-tidal volume 0.737 (p = 0.003).  Conclusions:  despite the theoretical foundation, no correlation was found between BMI and mechanical power; However, the analysis of this formula allows us to elucidate that height is a factor with a high correlation with mechanical power and leads us to question the value of this lung protection goal and its applicability in patients in our environment.]]></p></abstract>

Esse valor tem sido proposto como um objetivo de proteção ventilatória, no entanto, devido às características do paciente obeso, considera-se que esse valor pode ser influenciado em relação ao IMC. Objetivo geral: avaliar a correlação entre o índice de massa corporal e o valor da potência mecânica em pacientes sob ventilação mecânica na unidade de terapia intensiva.  Material e métodos:  será realizado um estudo observacional, prospectivo, do tipo correlação, em adultos sob ventilação mecânica atendidos na UTI, no período de 1o de junho a 30 de agosto de 2024. Serão incluídas as seguintes variáveis do estudo: idade, sexo, IMC e Potência Mecânica. O tamanho da amostra (14 pacientes) foi calculado pela fórmula de correlação simples em um grupo. Será avaliado o coeficiente de correlação r de Pearson entre IMC e potência mecânica.  Resultados:  foi encontrada correlação entre Potência Mecânica-IMC de 35% (p = 0.214); foi encontrada correlação Potência Mecânica-Altura de 85% (p &lt; 0.001), Potência Mecânica-Pressão Resistiva 49% (p = 0.075), Potência Mecânica-Pressão de pico 0.740 (p = 0.002), Potência Mecânica-Volume corrente 0.737 (p = 0.003).  Conclusão:  apesar da fundamentação teórica, não foi encontrada correlação entre IMC e potência mecânica; contudo, a análise desta fórmula permite elucidar que o tamanho é um fator com elevada correlação com a potência mecânica e nos leva a questionar o valor desta meta de proteção pulmonar e sua aplicabilidade em pacientes do nosso meio.]]></p></abstract>
