El SDRA es la aparición rápida de insuficiencia respiratoria hipoxémica asociada a opacidades pulmonares bilaterales en las imágenes de tórax atribuidas a edema pulmonar no cardiogénico. Representa hasta 13% de ingresos a la unidad de cuidados intensivos (UCI), el cual puede ser por causas obstétricas y no obstétricas, con mortalidad entre 9-14%, en muchas ocasiones requiriendo ventilación mecánica invasiva para mantener una presión parcial de oxígeno (PaO2) &gt; 60 mmHg. Las estrategias de protección pulmonar son las mismas que en paciente no obstétrica, al igual que las indicaciones para ventilación en posición prono en hipoxemia refractaria. Un componente esencial en el manejo del SDRA en el embarazo implica una buena comunicación entre el equipo de obstetricia y el especialista en cuidados críticos además una compresión fundamental del soporte ventilatorio mecánico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a potentially life-threatening condition that, along with the physiological changes of pregnancy, presents a challenge in its management. ARDS is the rapid onset of hypoxemic respiratory failure associated with bilateral lung opacities on chest imaging attributed to non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema. It accounts for up to 13% of admissions to the intensive care unit (ICU), which can be due to obstetric and non-obstetric causes, with a mortality rate ranging from 9-14%. Often, invasive mechanical ventilation is required to maintain a partial oxygen pressure (PaO2) of &gt; 60 mmHg. Lung-protective strategies are the same as in non-obstetric patients, as are the indications for prone positioning in refractory hypoxemia. An essential component in the management of ARDS during pregnancy involves effective communication between the obstetrics team and the critical care specialist, as well as a fundamental understanding of mechanical ventilatory support.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo: A síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo (SDRA) é uma condição com risco de vida que, durante a gravidez, representa um desafio em seu tratamento e na ventilação mecânica, por isso é fundamental entender as alterações fisiológicas da gravidez para abordar adequadamente essa condição. A SDRA é o início rápido de uma insuficiência respiratória hipoxêmica associada a opacidades pulmonares bilaterais em imagens do tórax atribuídas a edema pulmonar não cardiogênico. Representa até 13% das admissões na unidade de terapia intensiva (UTI), que podem ser por causas obstétricas e não obstétricas, com mortalidade entre 9 e 14%, muitas vezes exigindo ventilação mecânica invasiva para manter uma pressão parcial de oxigênio (paO2) &gt; 60 mmHg, as estratégias para proteção pulmonar são as mesmas que em pacientes não obstétricas, assim como as indicações para ventilação na posição prona em hipoxemia refratária.
