Estos rasgos siguen marcando a muchos sistemas educativos e impiden que la educación contribuya a la equidad y democracia. Este artículo presenta ideas sobre los rasgos que el sistema educativo debería adoptar, en contraste con los que han prevalecido históricamente, para propiciar la equidad a mediano y largo plazo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Educational systems have been characterized by features that promote inequality, such as a late start, limitation of universal character to primary school, organization in grades with summative evaluation at the end of each one, unequal offer that harms the disadvantaged, selection of a minority that would pursue secondary and higher education, not attention to complex cognitive skills, critical thinking and socio-emotional competencies. These traits continue to mark many systems and prevent education from contributing to equity and democracy. This article presents ideas about features opposite to those that have prevailed historically, that the educational system should have to promote equity in the medium and long term.]]></p></abstract>
