<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2448-60192025000100103&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2448-60192025000100103&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2448-60192025000100103&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: El objetivo de este artículo es poner en contraste tres ensayos: &#8220;El arte de la ficción&#8221; de Walter Besant, &#8220;El arte de la ficción&#8221; de Henry James y &#8220;Una humilde amonestación&#8221; de Robert Louis Stevenson, contemporáneos y similares entre sí, pues debaten alrededor de las capacidades que posee la narración de captar la realidad verosímilmente, entendiendo el concepto de &#8220;verosimilitud&#8221; según los términos clásicos aristotélicos. En un segundo momento, el artículo compara los principales postulados, en torno a la verosimilitud en literatura, que presentan estos tres ensayos. Asimismo, se les analiza con base en las premisas de creación literaria que Jorge Luis Borges plantea en tres textos suyos: &#8220;El arte narrativo y la magia&#8221;, &#8220;El arte de contar historias&#8221; y el prólogo a la novela La invención de Morel de Bioy Casares. Se halla un nexo claro entre la concepción de verosimilitud stevensoniana y la borgesiana, y se concluye que la narración debe ser una operación rotundamente opuesta a la realidad, ponderando, principalmente, la maestría del acto mismo de narrar, y a la vez, el oficio de crear temas que sorprendan y cautiven la imaginación del lector. El artículo es relevante al situar la poética de Borges bajo la óptica de esta discusión, y al enfatizar la pertinencia de los estudios temáticos en este autor.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The objective of this paper is to contrast three essays, by Besant, James (&#8220;The Art of Fiction&#8221;) and Stevenson (&#8220;A humble remonstrance&#8221;), contemporaneous and similar to each other since they debate the capacities that the narrative has to capture reality with verisimilitude, understanding the concept of &#8220;verisimilitude&#8221; according to Aristotelian terms. In a second moment, the paper makes a comparison between the poetics proposed by these three essays, (especially in relation to the importance of the themes), with the creative project of Jorge Luis Borges, mainly through his texts: &#8220;El arte narrativo y la magia, &#8220;El arte de contar historias&#8221; and the prologue to the novel La invención de Morel. A clear link is found with Stevenson&#8217;s postulates, and it is concluded that narration must be an operation that is categorically opposed to reality, considering, mainly, the mastery of the act of narrating itself, and at the same time, the craft of creating themes that surprise and captivate the reader&#8217;s imagination. The paper is relevant in situating Borges&#8217;s poetics under the lens of this discussion, and in emphasizing the relevance of thematic studies in this author.]]></p></abstract>
