<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2007-40852020000100103&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2007-40852020000100103&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2007-40852020000100103&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Antecedentes:  La infección de vías urinarias (IVU) es una de las infecciones bacterianas más comunes en las mujeres, las tasas de IVU después de la colocación de cinta medio uretral (CMU) son tan altas como 34% dentro de los primeros 3 meses de cirugía y hasta 50% después de 1 año. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la frecuencia de infección de vías urinarias y recurrencia en la aplicación de CMU al año e identificar factores de riesgo.  Material y métodos:  Estudio de casos y controles, en pacientes que se les colocó CMU, durante 2014-2017, al completar el primer año postoperatorio se identificaron dos grupos: IVU y NO IVU, se realizó estadística descriptiva de cada una de las variables, se realizó la comparación entre grupos. Se calculó Odds Ratio (OR), se realizó un ajuste en los riesgos para aquellas variables que resultaron significativas. Se utilizó el programa estadístico SPSS versión 25 para el análisis estadístico, se consideró una p&lt;0.05 como resultado estadísticamente significativo.  Resultados:  Se incluyeron 267 pacientes a las cuales se les coloco CMU, encontrando IVU en 34 pacientes (12.7%), IVU recurrente en 9 pacientes (3.4%), se colocaron 250 cintas TOT (93.6%) y 17 cintas TVT (6.4%), se presentó infección del tracto urinario durante el primer año postoperatorio en 6 (35.2%) en TVT, 28 (11.2%) en TOT, dicha asociación fue estadísticamente significativa. Con respecto a los factores de riesgo, se encontró que la colocación de cinta TVT un OR=4.32 (IC95%=1.48-12.6) y el uso de sonda urinaria mayor a 48 horas con un OR=8.40 (IC95%=3.23-21.8).  Conclusiones: La frecuencia de IVU e IVU recurrente posterior a la colocación de CMU fue similar a la reportada en la literatura, encontramos como factores de riesgo para IVU la colocación de TVT y el uso de sonda urinaria &gt; 48 horas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background:  Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections in women. UTI rates after midurethral sling (MUS) placement are as high as 34% within the first 3 postoperative months and can reach 50% at one year. The aim of the present study was to determine the frequency of UTI and its recurrence at one year from MUS placement and to identify the risk factors.  Materials and methods:  A case-control study was conducted on patients that underwent MUS placement within the time frame of 2014-2017 and completed one postoperative year. They were divided into two groups: the cases that presented with UTI and the controls that did not. All variables were expressed through descriptive statistics and the two groups were compared. Odds ratio (OR) was calculated and risk adjustment was performed on the statistically significant variables. The SPSS version 25 program was employed for the statistical analysis and statistical significance was set at a p&lt;0.05.  Results:  The study was carried out on 267 patients. Thirty-four patients (12.7%) presented with UTI and 9 patients (3.4%) presented with recurrent UTI. A total of 250 TOT slings (93.6%) were placed and 17 TVT slings (6.4%). Six patients with TVT slings (35.2%) and 28 with TOT slings (11.2%) presented with UTI during the first postoperative year, with a statistically significant association. Regarding the risk factors, TVT sling placement produced an OR of 4.32 (95%CI=1.48-12.6) and the use of a urinary catheter for more than 48 hours resulted in an OR of 8.40 (95%CI=3.23-21.8).  Conclusions: The frequency of UTI and recurrent UTI after MUS placement was similar to that reported in the literature. We found TVT sling placement and the use of a urinary catheter &gt; 48 hours to be risk factors for UTI.]]></p></abstract>
