Objectives: To evaluate ETo and analyze its behavior during the rainy season on a daily, monthly and seasonal basis.  Methodology: Daily data series on temperature, radiation, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity and wind speed from five weather stations in the Lerma-Chapala basin were used. The ETo calculation was based on the application of the Penman-Monteith method.  Results:  ETo during the rainy season followed a decreasing pattern, characterized by being non-linear. At the beginning of the season, values higher than 6 mm·day-1 were observed, and at the end they were lower than 2 mm·day-1. Correlation analysis showed that ETo depends on relative humidity and radiation.  Study limitations: The number of stations used was very low for the size of the basin because the network of automatic weather stations is still under development.  Originality: There are very few studies focused on evapotranspiration variation as a function of elevation and meteorological variables, in addition to a specific analysis in the rainy season.  Conclusions:  The seasonal behavior of ETo shows important changes related to the behavior of relative humidity and radiation, which can have a significant impact on crop water needs.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción: La estimación de la evapotranspiración de las superficies cultivadas se basa comúnmente en el cálculo de la evapotranspiración de referencia (ETo), y es esencial en los estudios climáticos e hidrológicos, así como en los proyectos relacionados con la gestión del agua en la agricultura.  Objetivos: Evaluar la ETo y analizar su comportamiento durante la estación de lluvias de manera diaria, mensual y estacional.  Metodología: Se utilizaron series de datos diarios de temperatura, radiación, presión barométrica, humedad relativa y velocidad del viento de cinco estaciones meteorológicas de la cuenca Lerma-Chapala. El cálculo de la ETo se basó en la aplicación del método Penman-Monteith.  Resultados:  La ETo durante la estación de lluvias siguió un patrón decreciente, caracterizado por ser no lineal. Al inicio de la estación se observaron valores superiores a los 6 mm(día-1, y al final valores inferiores a 2 mm(día-1. El análisis de correlación mostró que la ETo depende de la humedad relativa y la radiación.  Limitaciones del estudio: El número de estaciones utilizadas fue muy bajo para el tamaño de la cuenca, esto debido a que la red de estaciones meteorológicas automáticas aún se encuentra en desarrollo.  Originalidad: Existen muy pocos estudios enfocados en la variación de la evapotranspiración en función de la altitud y de las variables meteorológicas, además del análisis específico en la temporada de lluvias.  Conclusiones:  El comportamiento estacional de la ETo muestra cambios importantes relacionados con el comportamiento de la humedad relativa y la radiación, que pueden llegar a impactar significativamente en las necesidades de agua de los cultivos.]]></p></abstract>
