<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1870-72032022000400329&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1870-72032022000400329&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1870-72032022000400329&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:  Introducción:  El empleo de dispositivos invasivos (catéteres, sondas, tubos, electrodos, etc.) en pacientes en estado crítico puede ocasionar complicaciones inmediatas que ponen en riesgo la vida; en esta revisión se abordarán las complicaciones asociadas a la colocación de tubo endotraqueal y catéter central, por lo que conocer los marcadores anatómicos que establezcan una guía para reconocer la adecuada colocación de estos dispositivos médicos mediante las diferentes modalidades de imagen favorece la detección temprana de las posibles complicaciones.  Material y métodos:  Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica detallada del tema, también se obtuvieron y analizaron imágenes representativas procedentes del Departamento de Imagenología del Hospital Angeles Lomas para describir los marcadores anatómicos utilizados con el fin de evaluar la localización del tubo endotraqueal y el catéter central colocados en pacientes críticos, y en el caso de los dispositivos mal localizados y las complicaciones generadas por los mismos.  Resultados:  Se logró establecer los diferentes marcadores anatómicos que indican una adecuada colocación de los distintos dispositivos.  Conclusiones:  Es esencial que el personal médico se familiarice con los estudios de imagen que se emplean para el monitoreo de los procedimientos, así como los marcadores anatómicos y la apariencia radiológica normal del adecuado posicionamiento de los dispositivos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  Invasive procedures like the placement of catheters, probes, tubes, and electrodes in critically ill patients can cause immediate life-threatening complications. This review will approach the complications caused by central catheter and endotracheal tube. Therefore, recognizing the different anatomical markers that serve as guidance to assure the proper placement of these medical devices using different imaging modalities, favors the early detection of potential complications.  Material and methods:  A detailed review of the literature about the subject was carried out, and representative cases from the imaging department of Hospital Angeles Lomas, were analyzed to describe the anatomical markers used to evaluate the correct location of medical devices such as central catheter and endotracheal tube placed in critically ill patients. The appearance and complications of misplaced devices were also recorded.  Results:  We describe the anatomical markers that are useful to prove the adequate placement of different medical devices, as well as the most common complications and radiological appearances of misplaced devices.  Conclusions:  It is essential that radiologists and other physicians become familiar with the different imaging modalities used to evaluate the placement of medical devices, as well as being aware of the anatomical markers and the radiological appearance of properly positioned or misplaced devices and possible complications of their misplacement.]]></p></abstract>
