A ella contribuyeron exploradores, oficiales y misioneros.
</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract This article examines and analyzes key aspects of the colonization strategies employed by France in North America. Upon the arrival of French colonizers, demographic pressures became a reality, leading many indigenous peoples to lose the vast territories they had inhabited. While French settlers often established peaceful regimes, these were primarily driven by commercial interests. As a result of these interests, conflicts frequently arose between the French and the English, with the central point of contention being the struggle for control over the beaver fur trade monopoly. Throughout their colonial presence in North America, the French developed an approach that could be tentatively described as “ethnographic,” influenced by explorers, officers, and missionaries. This perspective was deeply rooted in its historical context and reflected the imperialist ambitions shaped by the centralizing policies of Louis XIV’s absolutist regime. Finally, the article addresses the process of acculturation, which occurred in both directions: not only were the indigenous peoples “Frenchified,” but some groups of settlers also underwent a process of “Indianization.”
</abstract>
