Objetivo: comparar el estrés por polimerización de tres diferentes técnicas de obturación de resinas dentales y tipos de resina, por medio de fotoelasticidad.  Material y métodos: se realizaron 33 placas de resina fotoelástica con una cavidad circular en el centro de 7 mm de diámetro, se obturaron dichas cavidades con resina por la técnica en bloque, pared por pared, de incrementos oblicuos y se polimerizaron. Una hora después se colocaron las muestras en el polariscopio, fueron fotografiadas y medidas. Se realizó análisis estadístico con las pruebas Kolmogorov-Smirnov, ANOVA y post hoc Tukey, en el programa SPSS V.22 IBM.  Resultados: el 100% de las muestras presentan contracción por polimerización. Todas expresan isocromas en la resina fotoelástica. La técnica en bloque mostró los resultados más bajos de contracción, el 40% de las muestras presentaron sólo la primera banda isocromática correspondiente al valor más bajo de estrés.  Conclusión: el uso de las resinas para la técnica en bloque reduce el estrés en las paredes cavitarias.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: composite resins are widely used materials in which research continues in pursuit of decreasing shrinkage which is the main cause for their failure.  Objective: to compare the contraction by polymerization of three different dental resin placement techniques, using photoelasticity.  Material and methods: 33 photo elastic resin plates were made with a circular cavity in the center of 7 mm in diameter. These cavities were filled with resin by the block technique, wall by wall, in oblique increments, and polymerized. One hour later, the samples were placed in the polariscope, photographed, and measured. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, ANOVA, and post hoc Tukey tests, in the SPSS V.22 IBM program.  Results: 100% of the samples showed polymerization shrinkage. They all expressed isochromes in the photoelastic resin. The block technique showed the lowest shrinkage results, 40% of the samples presented only the first isochromatic band corresponding to the lowest stress value.  Conclusion: the use of resins for the block technique reduces stress on the cavity walls.]]></p></abstract>
