Actualmente, cultivos de estas células son usados en estudios de biocompatibilidad de materiales dentales, así como en medicina regenerativa e ingeniería tisular. El tiempo postexodoncia conforma un factor importante para la obtención de un elevado porcentaje de viabilidad celular. Reportes sobre la viabilidad celular de cultivos de células troncales de la pulpa dental no incluyen la población celular total de la pulpa. Por este motivo, el objetivo de este estudio fue conocer la influencia del tiempo postexodoncia, la edad y el sexo del paciente en la obtención de células viables de pulpas dentales.  Material y métodos: Se compararon dos tiempos, antes de las 24 horas y después de las 72 horas postexodoncia. Se recolectaron un total de 42 dientes de pacientes entre 13 y 42 años de edad. Para determinar la viabilidad celular se usó la tinción de azul de tripano y se hizo el recuento celular en el microscopio. Las células vivas fueron observadas de color blanco y las muertas de color azul.  Resultados: Las pulpas que fueron obtenidas antes de las 24 horas postexodoncia presentaron un mayor porcentaje de viabilidad celular con respecto a las pulpas obtenidas después de las 72 horas postexodoncia.  Conclusiones: La obtención de las células de la pulpa dental debe realizarse en un tiempo &#8804; a 24 horas postexodoncia para óptimos resultados. Existe una relación entre la edad del paciente y la viabilidad en las pulpas obtenidas antes de las 24 horas postexodoncia. El sexo del paciente no influye en la viabilidad celular de los tiempos estudiados.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction: The human dental pulp is considered a cellular source, where fibroblasts, odontoblasts, and stem cells can obtain. Currently, cultures of these cells are used in biocompatibility studies of dental materials, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering. Post-extraction time is essential in obtaining a high percentage of cell viability. Reports on cell viability of dental pulp stem cell cultures do not include the total pulp cell population. For this reason, this study aimed to assess the influence of post-exodontia time and patients' age and gender in obtaining viable dental pulp cells.  Material and methods: Two periods of time were compared, before 24 hours and after 72 hours post-exodontia. 42 teeth of patients from 13 to 42 years were collected. The cell viability was determined using trypan blue staining, and the cell count was done under the microscope. The living cells were observed white and the dead one blue.  Results: The pulps obtained before 24 hours post-exodontia had a higher percentage of viable cells than those obtained after 72 hours.  Conclusions: The extraction of the dental pulp cells should be done in &#8804; to 24 hours post-exodontia for optimal results. There is a relationship between the age of the patient and the viability in the pulps before 24 hours post-exodontia. Gender's patients do not influence cell viability.]]></p></abstract>
