Este estudio evaluó la composición, distribución y provisión de servicios ecosistémicos (SE) de las especies arbóreas ubicadas en avenidas y calles públicas de Xalapa, Veracruz, abarcando zonas con distintos niveles de vulnerabilidad socioambiental. A través del programa i-Tree Eco v6, se analizaron los SE proporcionados por el arbolado a lo largo de 25 kilómetros de ejes viales, donde se registraron 1,411 árboles pertenecientes a 98 especies, predominando las especies introducidas (59%). Las especies más comunes fueron Liquidambar styraciflua, Ficus benjamina y Fraxinus uhdei. La valoración económica anual de los SE aportados por el arbolado de alineación ascendió a MXN 366,866.42, la remoción de contaminantes aportó el mayor valor con MXN 283,597.00. La prestación de SE fue significativamente diferente entre zonas con distintos niveles de vulnerabilidad socioambiental, siendo las zonas más vulnerables las que presentaron una menor capacidad para mitigar la contaminación atmosférica. Estos resultados enfatizan la necesidad de estrategias de gestión urbana que promuevan la conservación y expansión del arbolado de alineación, considerando tanto su valor ecológico como su aporte a la calidad de vida de los habitantes de la ciudad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract From a social, economic, and ecological perspective, urban trees are an essential component of cities. This study evaluated the composition, distribution, and provision of ecosystem services by tree species located along avenues and public streets in Xalapa, Veracruz, encompassing areas with varying levels of socio-environmental vulnerability. Using the i-Tree Eco v6 software, the ecosystem services provided by the trees along 25 kilometers of roadways were analyzed, with a total of 1,411 trees recorded, representing 98 species, with introduced species predominating (59%). The most common species were Liquidambar styraciflua, Ficus benjamina, and Fraxinus uhdei. The annual economic valuation of the ecosystem services provided by the street trees amounted to MXN 366,866.42, with air pollutant removal contributing the highest value at MXN 283,597.00. The provision of ecosystem services varied significantly across areas with different levels of socio-environmental vulnerability, with the most vulnerable areas showing a reduced capacity to mitigate air pollution. These results highlight the need for urban management strategies that promote the conservation and expansion of street trees, considering both their ecological value and their contribution to the quality of life of city inhabitants.]]></p></abstract>
