Por lo tanto, es crucial profundizar en su comprensión para desarrollar herramientas efectivas que faciliten la restauración y manejo de dichos ambientes. En este estudio se analizó el régimen de incendios forestales, con énfasis en la extensión, frecuencia, recurrencia y estacionalidad utilizando como unidad de análisis espacial a los ejidos ubicados dentro del Área de Importancia para la Conservación de las Aves 197, en la península de Yucatán de 2012 - 2021. Se emplearon puntos de calor y perímetros de conglomerados de puntos de calor derivados de los sensores MODIS y VIIRS a fin de generar el índice espaciotemporal de incendios forestales (IETIF) representado en diferentes categorías espaciales. Se identificaron áreas críticas, con valores altos de IETIF en ejidos vinculados con actividades agropecuarias y presencia de Pteridium aquilinum. Por otra parte, se observaron valores bajos de IETIF en ejidos que llevan a cabo un programa de manejo forestal. Este estudio reveló patrones en la dinámica espacial (i.e. incendios de &#8805;2000 ha poco frecuentes) y temporal (i.e. baja frecuencia, pero alta recurrencia y estacionalidad marcada entre marzo y mayo) que aportan evidencia clave para comprender el régimen de incendios en estos ecosistemas. Además, el IETIF se plantea como una herramienta para evaluar la dinámica del fuego, priorizar zonas de intervención y estimar posibles afectaciones, apoyando el diseño de estrategias de manejo integral del fuego a escala local y regional.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The forest fire regime in forests is linked to existing land uses and causes loss of forest cover. Therefore, it is crucial to deepen its understanding in order to develop effective tools to facilitate the restoration and management of these environments. In this study we analyzed the forest fire regime, with emphasis on the extent, frequency, recurrence and seasonality using as a spatial unit of analysis the ejidos located within the Important Bird Area 197, in the Yucatan Peninsula from 2012 - 2021. Hot spots and hot spot cluster perimeters derived from MODIS and VIIRS sensors were used to generate the Spatial-Temporal Index of Forest Fires (IETIF) represented in different spatial categories. Critical areas were identified, with high values of IETIF in ejidos linked to agricultural activities and presence of Pteridium aquilinum. On the other hand, low IETIF values were observed in ejidos that carry out a forest management program. This study revealed patterns in spatial (i.e., infrequent fires of &#8805;2000 ha) and temporal dynamics (i.e., low frequency, but high recurrence and marked seasonality between March and May) that provide key evidence for understanding the fire regime in these ecosystems. In addition, the IETIF is proposed as a tool to evaluate fire dynamics, prioritize intervention zones and estimate possible impacts, supporting the design of integrated fire management strategies at local and regional scales.]]></p></abstract>
