Los objetivos del trabajo fueron caracterizar el rodal dasométricamente, analizar su crecimiento en diámetro, determinar la densidad básica de la madera y caracterizar el sotobosque, el mantillo y el arraigamiento. Mediante un censo de los árboles se midieron las variables de diámetro normal y basal y se estimaron las alturas. Se evaluó el crecimiento diametral según el ancho de anillos (muestras radiales de 5 mm de diámetro) y la densidad básica de la madera en muestras radiales de 12 mm de diámetro. Además, se caracterizó el sotobosque, el suelo, el mantillo y el arraigamiento. El clima local es más húmedo y frío que en su origen, pero adecuado para la especie. El suelo es estructuralmente adecuado, pero pobre en nutrientes. El rodal presentó 1830 árboles por hectárea, área basal de 105,6 m2/ha, diámetro medio cuadrático de 27 cm, altura dominante de 22 m y densidad básica promedio de la madera de 350 kg/m3. El sotobosque cubrió 9% y el mantillo presentó 40,5 Mg/ha de materia orgánica. El arraigamiento fino alcanzó hasta 1 m de profundidad, con alta concentración superficial (50% desde 0 cm hasta 21 cm). Se concluyó que Abies pinsapo se ha desarrollado mejor en Valdivia que en su hábitat natural, que su crecimiento diametral indicó mayor estrés por competencia que por limitaciones climáticas y que su madera fue de baja densidad básica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Abies pinsapo, an endangered species native to the Mediterranean (Spain and Morocco), is found in Chile as ornamental, but in Valdivia, there is a 42year-old experimental plantation that allows us to know its development as a species of forestry interest. The objectives of the work were to characterize the forest biometrics of the stand, analyze its growth in diameter, determine the basic density of the wood, and characterize the understory, mulch, and rooting. Standard and basal diameter variables were measured using a census, and heights were estimated. Diametric growth was evaluated according to ring width (radial samples of 5 mm diameter) and basic wood density in radial samples of 12 mm diameter. In addition, understory, soil, mulch, and rooting were characterized. The local climate is wetter and colder than originally, but suitable for the species. The soil is structurally adequate but poor in nutrients. The stand had 1830 trees/ha, a basal area of 105.6 m2/ha, a mean square diameter of 27 cm, a dominant height of 22 m, and an average basic wood density of 350 kg/m3. The understory covered 9%, and the mulch presented 40.5 Mg/ha of organic matter. The fine rooting reached a depth of 1 m, with high surface concentration (50% in 0 cm - 21 cm). It was concluded that Abies pinsapo has developed better in Valdivia than in its natural habitat; its diametric growth indicated more significant stress due to competition than to climatic limitations, and its wood had low basic density.]]></p></abstract>
