The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of agronomic practices such as pruning, girdling and water stress on some postharvest quality parameters in rambutan fruits from 'RJA Clone' trees in Chiapas, Mexico. A split-plot experimental design in randomized complete blocks with a factorial arrangement and six replicates was used. Fruits from trees managed under water stress conditions showed greater fresh weight (40.2 g), concentration of total soluble solids (TSS, 22.62 °Brix), total sugars (423 mg&#8729;100 g-1), vitamin C (37.79 mg&#8729;100 g-1) and titratable acidity (0.30 %). On the other hand, it was found that water stress caused a 33 % weight loss in fruits, in relation to fruits from irrigated trees (48 %). The latter were characterized by having less sweetness (between 18 and 19 °Brix) and higher acidity (0.417 %). In general, the application of temporal drought, girdling and pruning contributed to the obtaining of fruits with greater size, shelf life and sweetness, less weight loss and with a higher concentration of bioactive compounds (vitamin C and total phenols), in addition to acquiring physical and biochemical characteristics desirable for fresh consumption.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Nephelium lappaceum L. es un fruto tropical altamente perecedero debido a que es susceptible a la deshidratación y oxidación del pericarpio, lo que disminuye su aceptación en el mercado para consumo en fresco. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de prácticas agronómicas como la poda, anillado y estrés hídrico sobre algunos parámetros de calidad poscosecha en frutos de rambután provenientes de árboles del &#8216;Clon RJA&#8217; en Chiapas, México. Se utilizó un diseño experimental de parcelas divididas en bloques completos al azar con arreglo factorial con seis repeticiones. Los frutos de árboles manejados bajo condiciones de estrés hídrico mostraron mayor peso fresco (40.2 g), concentración de sólidos solubles totales (SST, 22.62 °Brix), azúcares totales (423 mg&#8729;100 g-1), vitamina C (37.79 mg&#8729;100 g-1) y acidez titulable (0.30 %). Por otro lado, se encontró que el estrés hídrico provoco la pérdida de 33 % del peso de los frutos, en relación con los frutos provenientes de árboles con riego (48 %). Estos últimos se caracterizaron por poseer menor dulzor (entre 18 y 19 °Brix) y mayor acidez (0.417 %). En general, la aplicación de sequía temporal, anillado y poda contribuyeron en la obtención de frutos con mayor tamaño, vida de anaquel y dulzor, menor pérdida de peso y con mayor concentración de compuestos bioactivos (vitamina C y fenoles totales), además de adquirir características físicas y bioquímicas deseables para su consumo en fresco.]]></p></abstract>
