Este cultivo se ve afectado por condiciones climáticas desfavorables como la sequía. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto del estrés hídrico y su relación con los cambios en la actividad enzimática del sistema antioxidante en los cultivares de Camino Real y Cabrillo en el Valle de Toluca. El experimento se dividió en tres fases: F0 (inicial), F1 (fase sequía) dividido en dos regímenes hídricos diferentes: a) óptimo o control y b) régimen nulo y F2 (fase de recuperación), donde el régimen nulo posteriormente se reirrigó a niveles de régimen óptimo. Se evaluaron las actividades enzimáticas de catalasa (CAT) y peroxidasa (POX), así como las concentraciones de peróxido de hidrógeno (H2O2) y prolina. Se estableció un diseño al azar con tres repeticiones y 15 unidades experimentales cada una, la fase F0 mostró diferencias en todas las variables entre cultivares. En régimen nulo F1, el cultivar Camino Real tuvo, respecto al control, un incremento de 36.03% en POX y un decremento de un 22.95% en CAT, mientras en Cabrillo se encontró una disminución en la actividad de POX de 69.43% y un incremento del 31.26% en CAT. Las concentraciones de H2O2 y prolina se incrementaron en ambos cultivares. En F2 no se encontraron diferencias en las actividades enzimáticas en ambos cultivares. La determinación de enzimas y osmolitos puede servir como indicador en cultivares de fresa con características de tolerancia a estrés hídrico en nuevas zonas geográficas. Se concluyó que el cultivar Camino Real presentó tolerancia a sequía mediante mecanismos enzimáticos, mientras que el cultivar Cabrillo mostró baja tolerancia por mecanismos de acumulación de osmolitos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Summary: Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) is a fruit produced in the central region of Mexico. This crop is affected by unfavorable climatic conditions such as drought. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of water stress and its relationship with changes in enzym activity of the antioxidant system in the cultivars &#8216;Camino Real&#8217; and &#8216;Cabrillo&#8217; in the Toluca Valley. The experiment was divided into three phases: F0 (initial), F1 (drought phase) - divided into two different water regimes: a) optimal or control and b) zero regime and F2 (recovery phase), where the zero regime was subsequently re-irrigated to optimal levels. The enzymatic activities of catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POX) were evaluated, as well as the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and proline. A randomized design was established, with three replicates and 15 experimental units each one. F0 showed differences in all variables between cultivars. In the zero regime (F1), compared to the control, the &#8216;Camino Real&#8217; cultivar showed a 36.03% increase in POX activity and a 22.95% decrease in CAT activity, while &#8216;Cabrillo&#8217; exhibited a 69.43% decrease in POX activity and a 31.26% increase in CAT activity. H2O2 and proline concentrations increased in both cultivars. In F2, no differences in enzymatic activities were found between the cultivars. The determination of enzymes and osmolytes can serve as indicators of strawberry cultivars with drought stress tolerance traits in new geographical regions. It was concluded that the &#8216;Camino Real&#8217; cultivar exhibited drought tolerance through enzymatic mechanisms, while the &#8216;Cabrillo&#8217; cultivar demonstrated low tolerance through osmolyte accumulation mechanisms.]]></p></abstract>
