Mediante técnicas de análisis de imagen se determina el tamaño y la forma de los poros que caracterizan el espacio poroso de superficies de bosque, pradera y semidesnuda por sobrepastoreo. La aplicación de criterios de calidad del suelo permite asociar los resultados de porosidad con las funciones potenciales del suelo como las de asegurar el almacenamiento y el transporte de agua. Los resultados muestran que la porosidad es mayor en las superficies de bosque y de pradera que en las superficies semidesnudas. Esto les permite potencialmente cumplir mejor la función de captar, almacenar y transportar agua hacia el interior del perfil. Los resultados muestran también que es necesario tomar precauciones para evitar que las superficies de suelo semidesnudas por pisoteo y sobrepastoreo del ganado bovino aumenten en extensión ya que disminuyen la porosidad del suelo y con ello su calidad física. Este estudio evidencia la importancia de la porosidad edáfica como indicador de la calidad física del suelo y la utilidad de la técnica de análisis de imagen como herramienta de apoyo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This paper presents the soil porosity as a soil quality indicator in the Nazas upper watershed. Image analysis techniques determine the size and shape of porosity that characterize soil surfaces of forest, grassland and semi-bare by cattle over grassing. Application of soil quality criteria allows to associate results of soil porosity with potential soil roles to ensure water storage and water transport. Results show that soil porosity is higher in forest and grassland surfaces than in semi-bare surfaces. This potentially allows to a better water caption, water storage and water transport into the soil profile. Results also show that caution should be taken to prevent semi-bare soil surfaces by over grassing and cattle trampling because they decrease soil porosity and soil quality. This work shows the importance of soil porosity as indicator of soil quality and the useful technique of image analysis as support tool.]]></p></abstract>
