The resistance in seedling and adult plant of 13 varieties and 37 lines of oats against stem rust caused by Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae was evaluated. TNQ and TFQ races and isolates AMEX18.21.1.1 and AMEX18.18.1.1 for seedling evaluation; and AMEX18.18.1.1 isolate in adult plants were used. The Diamante, Menonita, Karma and Turquesa varieties were resistant in seedling to the TFQ race, but susceptible to TNQ and the isolates AMEX18.21.1.1 and AMEX18.18.1.1, the other varieties were susceptible to the two races and isolates. All varieties were susceptible to isolate AMEX18.18.1.1, in seedling, but in adult plants these were classified as susceptible, intermediate and only Teporaca was resistant. The 37 lines were classified into 17 groups by final severity and sister lines. Genotypes 25, 28, 34, 39 and 48 were seedling resistant to AMEX18.18.1.1, and the rest were susceptible. In the field all the lines were resistant and only genotype 19 of group 14, reached a 20% infection. From its response in seedlings and in adult plants of the advanced lines, it is inferred that resistance is conditioned by adult plant genes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen. Se estudió la resistencia en plántula y planta adulta de 13 variedades y 37 líneas de avena contra la roya del tallo causada por Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae. Se utilizaron las razas TNQ y TFQ y los aislamientos AMEX18.21.1.1 y AMEX18.18.1.1 para la evaluación en plántula; y el aislamiento AMEX18.18.1.1 en planta adulta. Las variedades Diamante, Menonita, Karma y Turquesa fueron resistentes en plántula a la raza TFQ, pero susceptibles a TNQ y a los aislamientos AMEX18.21.1.1 y AMEX18.18.1.1, las otras variedades fueron susceptibles a las dos razas y aislamientos. Todas las variedades fueron susceptibles al aislamiento AMEX18.18.1.1, en plántula, pero en planta adulta éstas se clasificaron en susceptibles, intermedias y solo Teporaca fue resistente. Las 37 líneas se clasificaron en 17 grupos por la severidad final y por líneas hermanas. Los genotipos 25, 28, 34, 39 y 48 fueron resistentes en plántula a AMEX18.18.1.1, y el resto fueron susceptibles. En campo todas las líneas fueron resistentes y solo el genotipo 19 del grupo 14, alcanzó un 20% de infección. Por su respuesta en plántula y en planta adulta de las líneas avanzadas, se infiere que la resistencia está condicionada por genes de planta adulta.]]></p></abstract>
