En su desencadenamiento participan factores ambientales y genéticos. Diversos estudios, incluyendo los del genoma completo y de genes candidatos, han sugerido la participación de múltiples genes en el desarrollo de esta patología. Sin embargo, la mayoría de estas investigaciones se ha realizado en poblaciones caucásicas y orientales. Se ha identificado que los mexicanos presentan una mezcla de genes caucásicos, indígenas y africanos, composición que varía conforme al sitio del país donde se analice. Considerando lo anterior, los resultados de estudios realizados en otras poblaciones no pueden aplicarse a los mexicanos. En 2008, por iniciativa del doctor Carlos Posadas Romero, se inició el proyecto GEA (Genética de la Enfermedad Aterosclerosa), con el objetivo de generar conocimiento sobre los factores ambientales y genéticos que contribuyen a la enfermedad arterial coronaria prematura en la población mexicana. La presente revisión muestra la participación de la genética en el desarrollo de la enfermedad arterial coronaria prematura en los mexicanos, con base en los resultados obtenidos en la cohorte GEA.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a chronic and multifactorial disease, considered a global health problem. Environmental and genetic factors participate in its development. Various studies, including whole genome and candidate gene studies, have suggested the participation of multiple genes in developing this pathology. However, most of these studies have been conducted in Caucasian and Eastern populations. Studies conducted on the Mexican population show that Mexicans have a mixture of Caucasian, Indigenous, and African genes, this mixture varies according to the site of the Mexican Republic being analyzed. Given this, studies conducted in other populations cannot be applied to Mexicans. In 2008, at the initiative of Dr. Carlos Posadas Romero, the GEA (Genetics of Atherosclerotic Disease) project was launched, whose objective is to generate knowledge about environmental and genetic factors in patients with premature CAD (pCAD). The present review shows the participation of genetics in the development of pCAD in Mexicans, based on the results obtained in the GEA cohort.]]></p></abstract>
