A más de 20 años de la culminación del Proyecto del Genoma Humano, el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías y metodologías para evaluar los factores genéticos de riesgo que predisponen a un individuo a desarrollar esta y otras patologías hacen que la implementación de la medicina genómica comience a ser realidad como parte de la práctica clínica. Aunque en México se está iniciando con los estudios genómicos, estos han generado valioso conocimiento sobre la etiopatogénesis de la DT2. En esta revisión se abordan algunas de las aplicaciones que el conocimiento genómico puede tener en la práctica clínica, así como los avances en la genómica de la DT2 en México.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a public health problem and the second leading cause of death in Mexico. More than 20 years after the human genome project was completed, the development of innovative technologies and methodologies to determine the genetic risk factors that predispose an individual to develop this and other pathologies, have made the implementation of genomic medicine as part of clinical practice become a reality. Although in Mexico genomic studies are still in the beginning, these have generated knowledge about the etiopathogenesis of T2D. In this review, we will address genomic knowledge applications in clinical practice, as well as the advances in the genomics of T2D in Mexico.]]></p></abstract>
