Los métodos actuales para diagnosticar la LRA se basan en marcadores bioquímicos como la creatinina y la urea, así como en la producción de orina. Sin embargo, estos marcadores tienen limitaciones, como una respuesta tardía a la lesión renal y una falta de especificidad, por lo que la cistatina C se ha propuesto como un potencial biomarcador temprano para la LRA, lo que la convierte en un indicador más sensible de la función renal que la creatinina.  Objetivo:  comparar la precisión diagnóstica de la cistatina C contra la creatinina sérica en la predicción de LRA en pacientes críticos ingresados en la UTI.  Material y métodos:  Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo, observacional, descriptivo, con enfoque analítico y comparativo.  Resultados:  se obtuvieron 69 pacientes, los cuales se adaptaron en SPSS para realizar un análisis multivariado; se encontró que la cistatina C (OR 2.71, IC95% 1.50-1.84, p = 0.033) y la creatinina a los tres días (OR 1.89, IC95% 1.20-1.96, p = 0.013) fueron predictores significativos de LRA.  Conclusión:  la cistatina C es un biomarcador útil en la identificación precoz de LRA.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious condition in critically ill patients, with a high prevalence in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and a significant association with mortality. Current metho ds for diagnosing AKI are based on biochemical markers such as creatinine and urea, as well as urine output. However, these markers have limitations, such as a delayed response to kidney injury and a lack of specificity, which is why cystatin C has been proposed as a potential early biomarker for AKI, making it a more sensitive indicator of kidney function than creatinine.  Objective:  to compare the diagnostic accuracy of cystatin C against serum creatinine; in the prediction of AKI in critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.  Material and methods:  a retrospective, observational, descriptive study was carried out, with an analytical and comparative approach.  Results:  a total of 69 patients were obtained who were adapted to SPSS to perform a multivariate analysis, finding that cystatin C (OR 2.71, 95% CI 1.50-1.84, p = 0.033), and creatinine at 3 days (OR 1.89, 95% CI 1.20-1.96, p = 0.013) were significant predictors of acute kidney injury. Os métodos atuais de diagnóstico de LRA baseiam-se em marcadores bioquímicos, como a crea-tinina e a ureia, bem como na produção de urina. No entanto, estes marcadores têm limitações, tais como uma resposta tardia à lesão renal e uma falta de especificidade, razão pela qual a cistatina C foi proposta como um potencial biomarcador precoce da LRA, tornando-a um indicador mais sensível da função renal do que a creatinina  Objetivo:  comparar a precisão diagnóstica da cistatina C versus a creatinina sérica na predição de LRA em pacientes em estado crítico internados na UTI. Material e método: foi realizado um estudo retrospectivo, observacional, descritivo, com abordagem analítica e comparativa.
