El cambio de uso de suelo es uno de los problemas más complejos que se observa como parte del proceso de expansión urbana, lo cual trae como consecuencia la formación de la Isla de Calor Urbano (ICU). Con el objetivo de identificar la presencia de la ICU en la ciudad de Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, se implementó el modelo meteorológico MM5 para simular las condiciones meteorológicas durante el período del 30 de abril al 6 de mayo de 2017. Con base en las condiciones atmosféricas, se seleccionó el día 3 de mayo para ilustrar la ICU sobre la zona de estudio. Los resultados muestran la existencia del fenómeno sobre la ciudad a diferentes horas del día con intensidades que varían de 0.5 a 2.5 &#9675;C, sin embargo, éstas podrían ser mayores a los 5 &#9675;C y afectar principalmente la zona centro de la ciudad debido a factores como las propiedades del suelo, los flujos de calor, así como las características geomorfológicas del lugar. Por otro lado, se simuló un cambio de uso de suelo a partir de las tendencias de crecimiento actual de la ciudad, observándose en algunos casos un incremento en la extensión e intensidad de la ICU. Por tanto, se señala la presencia de la ICU en la ciudad donde se indica la importancia de la protección y conservación de las áreas verdes, por lo que los estudios relacionados a la ICU deberían ser considerados como parte de la planeación territorial para el desarrollo urbano.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract. Land use change is one of the most complex problems observed as part of the urban expansion process. It generates different consequences such as the Urban Heat Island (UHI) development. With the objective of identifying the presence of UHI in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, MM5 meteorological model was implemented to simulate the meteorological conditions for April 30th to May 6th, 2017. Considering the atmospheric conditions over the study area, the UHI was represented at different times of May 3rd, 2017. The results show the formation of the UHI over the city at different hours during the day. The UHI intensity varies from 0.5 to 2.5 &#9675;C but, it could be higher than 5 &#9675;C. The UHI affects mainly the center of the city as a consequence of factors such as soil properties, heat fluxes, and the geomorphological characteristics of the study area. Furthermore, considering the actual growth of the city, land use change was simulated. In some cases, the results show a bigger area and a higher intensity of the UHI phenomenon. Therefore, the presence of the UHI in the city is showed and the importance of the protection and conservation of green areas is indicated, which points out that UHI studies should be considered as part of territory planning for urban development.]]></p></abstract>
