</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract Based on the life story of Rona, a child who grew up in prison alongside his mother, this work examines the experiences of Latin American migrants imprisoned in Turkey. Among the findings of a study on international migration, it is noteworthy to highlight the cases of individuals who unexpectedly became migrants after being unduced or coerced into international drug trafficking and receiving sentences of up to twenty-five years of imprisonment. Through Rona’s testimony, this paper explores the dynamics of precariousness, vulnerability, resilience, and hope that characterize these subjects’ experiences. The Turkish prison system, marked by harsh sentences linked to drug trafficking and its alleged connection to terrorism, reveals how global inequalities impact upon human subjectivities. This study also delves into how confinement disrupts existential temporalities, as well as family and affective relationships, while simultaneously fostering forms of resistance and solidarity. In contexts of legal, economic, and social precarity, this work highlights the importance of making these stories visible to rethink confinement policies, emphasizing the inclusion of migrants’ voices in the design of measures that respect the dignity of those who fight for life and future.
</abstract>
