Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio transversal analítico en varones voluntarios sedentarios y deportistas recreativos, se llevó a cabo una prueba de esfuerzo sobre tapete en banda sin fin con el protocolo de Bruce modificado en rampa. Análisis estadístico, se hizo el análisis descriptivo de las variables, la diferencia entre grupos se evaluó con la prueba de t y las pruebas no paramétricas de Wilcoxon y Kruskal-Wallis. El valor de p&lt;0.05 se consideró estadísticamente significativo.  Resultados: Ambos grupos alcanzaron el máximo esfuerzo, no hubo diferencias significativas en edad, peso, talla e índice de masa corporal entre grupos. En el máximo esfuerzo los deportistas mostraron menor presión arterial diastólica (p=0.007), mayor volumen de oxígeno pico (p=0.002) respecto de los sedentarios. Los sedentarios llegaron al máximo esfuerzo en menor tiempo (p=0.002). La respuesta presora y cronotrópica en los deportistas fue menor (p=0.001 y p=0.004 respectivamente), mientras que el umbral anaeróbico, fue más alto (p=0.001) respecto de sedentarios.  Conclusiones: Este estudio muestra que, la prueba de esfuerzo permite de manera no invasiva evaluar la respuesta del organismo al ejercicio, evidenciando las ventajas de hacerlo aún a nivel recreativo y los cambios negativos en personas sedentarias.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objective: Compare the physiological response between sedentary and recreational athletes during the stress test.  Materials and Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out; sedentary male volunteers and recreational athletes were included. A stress test was performed with the modified Bruce protocol on a ramp. Statistical analysis. A descriptive analysis of the variables was carried out, and the difference between groups was evaluated usingthe t-test and the nonparametric Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The value of p&lt;0.05 was considered statistically significant.  Results: Both groups achieved maximum effort, and there were no differences in age, weight, height, and body mass index between groups. At maximum effort, athletes showed lower diastolic blood pressure (p=0.0007),and higher peak oxygen volume (p=0.002) than sedentary subjects.Sedentary subjectsreached maximum effort in less time(p=0.002). The pressor and chronotropic response in the athletes was lower (p=0.001 and p=0.004 respectively), while the anaerobic threshold was higher (p=0.001) compared to sedentary subjects.  Conclusions: This study shows that the stress test allows a non-invasive evaluation of the body´s response to exercise, demonstrating the advantages of doing it even at a recreational level and the negative changes in sedentary people.]]></p></abstract>
