<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2007-40852019000300002&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2007-40852019000300002&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2007-40852019000300002&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Antecedentes:  Los catéteres doble J, son herramientas ampliamente utilizadas en urología, sin embargo, al tratarse de un cuerpo extraño en el tracto urinario estos presentan efectos adversos tras su aplicación hasta en el 30 % de los casos. Estos síntomas son atribuidos a la irritación local del espiral del catéter en la vejiga o si se encuentra en el cáliz renal. Numerosos estudios demuestran que la tamsulosina y algunos anticolinérgicos disminuyen los síntomas relacionados a catéteres ureterales.  Materiales y métodos:  Se realizó un estudio prospectivo observacional, aleatorizado y comparativo. La distribución se hizo de forma aleatoria de casos consecutivos 1 a 1. Los pacientes fueron sometidos a tratamiento endourológico, con ureteroscopia semirrígida y/o flexible, así como litotricia neumática y/o láser. Se obtuvieron dos grupos, incluyendo un total de 77 pacientes, 39 pacientes asignados al grupo 1 que recibieron tamsulosina 0.4 mg por vía oral cada 24 horas durante un mes posterior a la cirugía y 38 pacientes asignados al grupo 2, que recibieron 20 mg de butilhioscina por vía oral cada 8 horas por un mes posterior a la cirugía. La evaluación se realizó en el consultorio de urología, se aplicó el cuestionario validado Ureteric Stent Symptom Questionnaire (USSQ), a la semana 1, 2, y 4 posterior a la inserción del catéter doble J.  Resultados:  Ambos tratamientos, disminuyeron los síntomas irritativos y el dolor desde la segunda semana, presentando significancia estadística en la semana 4 respecto a la basal obtenida en la semana 1 (p&lt;0.05), además se observa una mejoría en la calidad de vida con incremento de más de 4.3 puntos del cuestionario validado, en la semana 4 (p&lt;0.05). Al comparar ambos grupos de tratamiento no hubo diferencia significativa en la mejoría de los síntomas irritativos, en la mejoría del dolor o en la mejoría de la calidad de vida tras 4 semanas de tratamiento.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background:  Double-J catheters are tools that are widely used in urology but given that they are a foreign body in the urinary tract, 30% of patients present with adverse effects after their placement. Such symptoms are attributed to local irritation caused by the spiral of the catheter in the bladder or when found in the renal calyx. Numerous studies have shown that tamsulosin and certain anticholinergics reduce ureteral catheter-related symptoms.  Material and methods:  A prospective, observational, randomized, comparative study was conducted. Consecutive cases were randomly distributed into the study groups (1 to 1). The patients underwent endourologic treatment with semirigid and/or flexible ureteroscopy, as well as pneumatic and/or laser lithotripsy. A total of 77 patients were divided into 2 groups: the 39 patients in group 1 received 0.4 mg of oral tamsulosin every 24 hours for one month after surgery and the 38 patients in group 2 received 20 mg of oral hyoscine butylbromide every 8 hours for one month after surgery. Patient evaluation took place at the urology service consultation office and the validated Ureteric Stent Symptom Questionnaire (USSQ) was applied at weeks 1, 2, and 4 after double-J catheter placement.  Results:  Both treatments reduced the irritative symptoms and pain, from the second week, and there was statistical significance at week 4, with respect to the baseline data obtained at week 1 (p&lt;0.05). There was also quality of life improvement, with a decrease of more than 4.3 points in the validated questionnaire, at week 4 (p&lt;0.05). Upon comparing the two treatment groups, there was no significant difference regarding improvement of the irritative symptoms, pain, or in quality of life after 4 weeks of treatment.]]></p></abstract>
