Ésta fue la pregunta del Laboratorio de Restauración Digital de la Cineteca Nacional de México al iniciar el proyecto de El automóvil gris. ¿Qué guía seguiremos para legitimar el trabajo que se hizo y cómo la vamos aplicar efectivamente a esta película? ¿Es posible, como lo sugiere Cesare Brandi, restaurar una versión original de hace tanto tiempo (1919)? El presente REPORTE describe y relata las experiencias de aprendizaje durante dicha restauración, la primera de su tipo para esta película y la primera hecha por entero digitalmente por una institución mexicana.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: How do you restore a film so many years -95- after its release? The Digital Restoration Laboratory of the Cineteca Nacional de Mexico wondered about this when it began The Grey Automobile project. What guide will we follow to legitimatize the work already done and how will we effectively apply it to this film? Is it possible, as suggested by Cesare Brandi, to restore an original version from so long ago (1919)? This REPORT describes and narrates the learning experiences during said restoration, the first of its type for this film and the first done digitally in its entirety by a Mexican institution.]]></p></abstract>
