La lidocaína se ha propuesto como un medicamento eficaz para el manejo del dolor; sin embargo, no se ha identificado cuál es el mejor método (bolo, infusión continua) ni el momento específico para mejores resultados.  Objetivo:  determinar la efectividad analgésica de lidocaína en bolo en el transoperatorio versus perfusión continua para control del dolor postoperatorio en cirugía general.  Material y métodos:  se realizó un ensayo clínico controlado en el Hospital Angeles Clínica Londres. Se seleccionaron a pacientes programados, del área de cirugía general, para cirugías abiertas o laparoscópicas, bajo anestesia general. Fueron divididos en tres grupos de acuerdo al modo de administración de lidocaína. Los casos con una escala visual analógica (EVA) menor a 3, se consideraron con efectividad analgésica.  Resultados:  se evaluaron 156 pacientes, se logró eficacia analgésica en el 80.1% de casos, al comparar por grupos, el 100% de casos que recibieron lidocaína tuvieron adecuado control del dolor.  Conclusión:  el uso de lidocaína en el transoperatorio permite un adecuado control del dolor en pacientes que se someten a cirugía, logrando eficacia analgésica, en comparación con aquellos que no la reciben.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:  Introduction:  pain is one of the most common fears in patients scheduled for surgical intervention. Lidocaine has been proposed as an effective medication for pain management; however, the best method (bolus, continuous infusion) or the specific moment for better results has not been identified.  Objective:  to determine the analgesic effectiveness of intraoperative bolus lidocaine vs. continuous perfusion for postoperative pain control in general surgery.  Material and methods:  Hospital Angeles Clínica Londres conducted a controlled clinical trial. Scheduled patients were selected only from the general surgery area, whether open or laparoscopic surgeries, under general anesthesia. They were divided into 3 groups according to the method of administration of the lidocaine. Cases with a visual analogue scale (VAS) of less than three were considered to have analgesic effectiveness.  Results:  156 patients were evaluated, and analgesic efficacy was achieved in 80.1% of cases. When compared by groups, 100% of cases that received lidocaine had adequate pain control.  Conclusion:  the use of lidocaine in the intraoperative period allows adequate pain control in patients who undergo surgery, achieving analgesic efficacy compared to those who do not receive it.]]></p></abstract>
