Se diseñó y aplicó una encuesta dirigida a 20 productores, de un total de 25, que habitan en la comunidad. Su edad, varía entre 30 y 58 años, con un promedio de 44 años. Del total de entrevistados, 66%, fueron del sexo masculino y todos dijeron ser jefes de familia; 34%, eran del sexo femenino y solo algunas, eran jefas de familias. Los entrevistados, comentaron que ellos cultivan amaranto, maíz y frijol en sus terrenos y en terrenos que prestan las organizaciones: &#8220;San Miguel de Proyectos Agropecuarios, S.P.R. de R.S&#8221; y &#8220;Asociación Civil Utopía Huixcazdhá&#8221;. La superficie máxima prestada, es de dos hectáreas y tienen el compromiso de sembrar al menos, media de amaranto y vender la cosecha a las empresas. Estas empresas, favorecen la presencia del amaranto en la comunidad. Se encontró una rentabilidad negativa del cultivo, sin embargo, los productores, no han considerado dejarlo de sembrar, ya que perderían la oportunidad de sembrar las dos hectáreas que se les prestan y han optado, por incrementar las innovaciones en el sistema de producción, la comercialización y el consumo del grano.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT: This research was designed to analyze the amaranth production system in the community of Huixcazdhá, Hidalgo, Mexico, while also identifying the role played by this crop in the daily life of producers. A survey was composed and applied to 20 producers, out of a total of 25, who live in the community. Their age ranged from 30 to 58 years, with an average of 44 years. Of the total number of interviewees, 66% were male of whom all defined themselves as heads of household; 34% were female of whom only a few were heads of household. The interviewees commented that they grow amaranth, maize and beans on their own land and on land lent by the organizations: &#8220;San Miguel de Proyectos Agropecuarios, S.P.R. de R.S&#8221; and &#8220;Asociación Civil Utopía Huixcazdhá&#8221;. The maximum area loaned is two hectares and they are committed to planting at least half an acre of amaranth and selling the harvest to these companies. These companies encourage the continued production of amaranth in the community. The crop was found to have a negative profit margin, however the producers have not considered ceasing to plant it, as they would lose the opportunity to plant the two hectares that are loaned to them; instead they have opted to increase innovations in the production, marketing and consumption system of the grain.]]></p></abstract>
