Después de un año de trabajo cualitativo con escuelas y sus comunidades, la presente investigación hace una propuesta pedagógica para que los conocimientos locales puedan ser enseñados en clases de Ciencias Naturales en concordancia con el currículo vigente. Como resultado, se postulan cinco dimensiones del conocimiento local que pueden ser vinculadas con un gran número de contenidos y objetivos curriculares de Ciencias Naturales presentes tanto en el currículo chileno como en otros documentos, buscando contribuir a la revitalización y revalorización de las culturas locales y para facilitar también los procesos de enseñanza de las Ciencias Naturales, a partir de la promoción de actividades indagatorias y culturalmente relevantes en las escuelas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Incorporating the knowledge, crafts and traditions of local cultures into the school curriculum is a challenge for teachers and school management teams, who struggle both to integrate this knowledge into the curriculum and to develop teaching strategies to that end. After a year of qualitative fieldwork with schools and communities, this paper offers a pedagogical proposal enabling local knowledge to be taught in natural science classes in accordance with the current curriculum. The results posit five areas of local knowledge that may be matched to much of the content and many of the objectives of the Chilean natural science curriculum and other curriculum documents. This finding helps to revitalize and re-evaluate local cultures and also facilitates the teaching process in the natural sciences by encouraging culturally-relevant activities in schools, which invite students to question and further research what they are learning.]]></p></abstract>
