<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1405-99402025000300006&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1405-99402025000300006&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1405-99402025000300006&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Objetivo: Los pacientes con cardiopatías congénitas con hipoflujo pulmonar dependientes de conducto arterioso tienen como medida paliativa la colocación de una fístula de Blalock-Taussig-Thomas (FBTT) o un stent ductal (StD), y posteriormente otra paliación o reparación definitiva. La FBTT se ha asociado a mayor morbimortalidad. El objetivo de este trabajo es comparar la morbimortalidad de la FBTT vs. StD, y sus resultados a corto y mediano plazo.  Método: La población en estudio fueron pacientes sometidos a la colocación de FBTT o StD de enero de 2012 a diciembre de 2022.  Resultados: Se identificaron 164 pacientes, de los cuales 128 con FBTT y 36 con StD. Presentaron complicaciones el 87.5% del grupo de FBTT y el 22.2% del grupo de StD (p &lt; 0.001). La OR de la FBTT para desarrollo de complicaciones fue de 19.58 (IC 95%: 7.79-51.17). La estancia en la unidad de cuidados intensivos fue menor con StD en comparación con FBTT (DM: &#8722;4.69 días; IC 95%: &#8722;7.30 a &#8722;2.07; I2 = 80%; p = 0.0004). El riesgo relativo de los pacientes con FBTT para defunción fue 2.32 (IC 95%: 0.755-7.149), pero no hubo diferencia estadísticamente significativa para mortalidad (p = 0.135).  Conclusiones: La mortalidad presentó una menor tendencia en los pacientes con StD. Sin embargo, otras variables, como morbilidad, estancia hospitalaria y reintervención, se presentaron con menos frecuencia en el grupo de StD, siendo la diferencia estadísticamente significativa. Esta evidencia es la primera en Latinoamérica y respalda al StD como la opción más segura y efectiva en comparación con la FBTT en nuestro medio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objectives: Patients with congenital heart disease with ductus arteriosus-dependent pulmonary flow have as a palliative procedure the placement of a Blalock-Taussig-Thomas fistula (BTTF) or ductal stent (DSt) and subsequently undergoing to definitive palliation or repair. BTTF has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The objective of this research is to compare the morbidity and mortality of BTTF versus DSt, as well as their short- and medium-term outcomes.  Method: The study population was patients undergoing BTTF or DSt placement from January 2012 to December 2022.  Results: 164 patients were identified, 128 with BTTF and 36 with DSt. 87.5% of the BTTF group presented complications, and 22.2% of the DSt group (p &lt; 0.001). The OR for BTTF for development of complications was 19.58 (95% CI: 7.79-51.17). Intensive care unit stay was shorter in DSt compared to FBTT (MD: &#8722;4.69 days; 95% CI: &#8722;7.30 to &#8722;2.07; I2 = 80%; p = 0.0004). The relative risk of FBTT patients for death was 2.32 (95% CI: 0.755-7.149), but there was no statistically significant difference for mortality (p = 0.135).  Conclusions: Mortality presented a lower tendency in patients with DSt. However, in other variables such as morbidity, hospital stay and reintervention were less frequent in the DSt group and were statistically significant. This evidence is the first in Latin-America and supports DSt as the safest and most effective option compared to FBTT in our setting.]]></p></abstract>
