En este estudio se evaluó la relación entre la salinidad, como controlador hidrológico, y los almacenes y flujos de carbono en manglares de franja de un escenario geomorfológico cárstico con gradiente salino como el de la laguna de Celestún. Se establecieron dos sitios de muestreo en el manglar de franja, uno en la zona de baja salinidad (&lt; 20 ups, interna) y otro en la zona de alta salinidad (&gt; 40 ups, boca). La estructura de la vegetación entre sitios es diferente; en el manglar de la zona de menor salinidad la especie dominante fue Laguncularia racemosa, mientras que en el de alta salinidad fue Avicennia germinans. En la caída de hojarasca no se registraron diferencias significativas entre sitios. En la zona interna se obtuvo un valor de 4.7 Mg C ha-1 año-1 ± 0.77 Mg C ha-1 año-1 con respecto a la zona de la boca (4 Mg C ha-1 año-1 ± 0.38 Mg C ha-1 año-1). Se observó que las condiciones contrastantes en la salinidad intersticial tuvieron efecto significativo en el almacén de carbono total, siendo mayor en la zona interna (375 Mg C ha-1 ± 9.6 Mg C ha-1). En esta misma zona las tasas de descomposición de hojarasca fueron más bajas (t50 &gt; 130 días), lo cual, junto con una mayor caída de hojarasca y una menor exportación por el flujo-reflujo de la marea, favorece la acumulación de materia orgánica en el suelo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In mangroves as well as in other forest ecosystems, the importance of assessing carbon storage and flows is recognized by the contribution that they may have in mitigation of the effects of CO2 emissions. This study evaluated the relationship between salinity as a hydrological controller and the carbon storages and flows in fringe mangroves of a geomorphologic karstic scenario with saline gradient like that of the Celestún lagoon. Two sampling sites were established in the fringe mangrove, one in the low salinity zone (&lt; 20 psu, internal) and the other in the high salinity zone (&gt; 40 psu, mouth). The structure of the vegetation between sites is different; the dominant species of man-grove in the zone of lower salinity was Laguncularia racemosa, whereas in the high salinity zone it was Avicennia germinans. In the fall of leaf litter there were no significant differences between sites, although it was greater in internal area (4.7 Mg C ha-1 year-1 ± 0.77 Mg C ha-1 year-1) with respect to the area of the mouth (4 Mg C ha-1 year-1 ± 0.38 Mg C ha-1 year-1). It was observed that the concentration of interstitial salinity had a significant effect on the total carbon storage, being greater in the Internal zone (375 Mg C ha-1 ± 9.6 Mg C ha-1). In the Internal zone the litterfall decomposition rates are lower (t50 &gt; 130 days), causing that, together with greater fall of leaf litter and lower export by the flow-ebb of the tide the accumulation of organic matter on the ground is favored.]]></p></abstract>
