La silicona es un material que se ha descrito para el cierre temporal del abdomen y la reparación de defectos ventrales. Las mallas composite con silicona no se han descrito para prevenir esta complicación. El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar la efi cacia de una malla composite de polipropileno con silicona para prevenir la presencia de adherencias abdominales en un modelo de hernia ventral inducida en ratas Wistar. Material y métodos: Se compararon dos grupos de 10 ratas Wistar, cada uno con un defecto herniario abdominal; en el grupo control se realizó la plastia ventral con malla de polipropileno y en el de experimentación, con una malla composite de silicona. Se analizaron las adherencias según las clasifi caciones macroscópica de Diamond y microscópica de Kanbour-Shakir. Resultados: El promedio de adherencias fue del 60% en el grupo experimental, contra el 100% en el grupo control (p = 0.04). Respecto a la gravedad de las adherencias, estas fueron menores en el grupo de experimentación (p = 0.01). Se presentaron fi brosis e infl amación de forma similar en ambos grupos (p &gt; 0.05). La proliferación vascular fue menor en el grupo de experimentación que en el control (p = 0.01). Conclusiones: La malla composite de polipropileno y silicona hasta el momento del corte parece generar menos adherencias que el polipropileno, con menos extensión, disección y gravedad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Background: Intraabdominal adhesions of a prosthesis or mesh can occur in 80-90% of patients and can have serious consequences. Silicone is a material that has been described for the temporary closure of the abdomen and repair of ventral defects. Silicone composite meshes are not described to prevent this complication. The objective of this study was to compare the effi cacy of a composite mesh of polypropylene with silicone to prevent abdominal adhesions presence of a ventral hernia model induced in Wistar rats. Material and methods: Two groups of 10 Wistar rats, each with an abdominal hernia defect were compared. Ventral hernioplasty was performed in the control group with polypropylene mesh and a composite silicone mesh was used in the experimental group. Adhesions were analyzed according to the macroscopic and microscopic Diamond-Shakir Kanbour ratings. Results: Mean adherence was 60% for the experimental group versus 100% in the control group (p=.04). The severity of these adhesions were lower in the experimental group (p=.01). Fibrosis and infl ammation occurred similarly in both groups (p&gt;.05). Vascular proliferation was lower in the experimental group compared to the controls (p=.01). Conclusions: Composite mesh of polypropylene and silicone, at cut-off so far, appears to generate fewer adhesions than polypropylene with less extension, severity and dissection.]]></p></abstract>
