The objective of this study was to evaluate the response to fertilization management in &#8216;Pinto Centauro&#8217; beans, as well as its impact on yield, nutritional quality and profitability index. The study was conducted during the spring-summer 2017 growing season in a rainfed &#8216;Pinto Centauro&#8217; bean crop in the municipality of Cusihuiriachi, Chihuahua, Mexico. A randomized complete block experimental design was used with three fertilization management schemes: control FM1 (N, P and K, with 41, 46 and 22 kg·ha-1, respectively), fertilization FM2 (N, P, K, S and Zn, with 41, 46, 22, 12 and 1 kg·ha-1, respectively) and fertilization FM3 (N, P, K, S and Zn, with 45, 60, 22, 22 and 1.5 kg·ha-1, respectively). Yield, nutritional quality (physicochemical properties and mineral content) and profitability were evaluated. The results obtained were statistically significant. FM3 fertilization increased yield by 46.26 %. In terms of nutritional quality, the highest concentrations were 8.35 % protein, 74 % phosphorus, 16.3 % iron and 39.77 % zinc. The profitability index was higher (55 %) with the FM3 treatment, compared to the control. Fertilization improved bean productivity and quality under rainfed conditions, making it a viable and sustainable strategy in semi-arid bean producing regions in Mexico and the world.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen La fertilización ofrece una forma de contrarrestar las deficiencias de micronutrientes y lograr un mayor contenido mineral en las plantas. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la respuesta del manejo de la fertilización en frijol &#8216;Pinto Centauro&#8217;, así como su impacto en el rendimiento, la calidad nutricional y el índice de rentabilidad. El estudio se realizó durante el ciclo primavera-verano de 2017 en el cultivo de frijol &#8216;Pinto Centauro&#8217; de temporal en el municipio de Cusihuiriachi, Chihuahua, México. Se empleó un diseño experimental de bloques completos al azar con tres esquemas de manejo de fertilización: testigo MF1 (N, P y K, con 41, 46 y 22 kg·ha-1, respectivamente), fertilización MF2 (N, P, K, S y Zn, con 41, 46, 22, 12 y 1 kg·ha-1, respectivamente) y fertilización MF3 (N, P, K, S y Zn, con 45, 60, 22, 22 y 1.5 kg·ha-1, respectivamente). Se evaluó el rendimiento, la calidad nutricional (propiedades físico-químicas y contenido mineral) y la rentabilidad. Los resultados obtenidos fueron estadísticamente significativos. La fertilización MF3 incrementó el rendimiento en 46.26 %. En términos de calidad nutricional, las concentraciones más altas fueron 8.35 % de proteína, 74 % de fósforo, 16.3 % de hierro y 39.77 % de zinc. El índice de rentabilidad fue mayor (55 %) con el tratamiento MF3, en comparación con el testigo. La fertilización mejoró la productividad y la calidad del frijol en condiciones de temporal, siendo una estrategia viable y sustentable en las regiones semiáridas productoras de frijol en México y en el mundo.]]></p></abstract>
