<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0188-62662023000100149&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0188-62662023000100149&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0188-62662023000100149&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se aplicó una modificación propia del índice de condición corporal, técnica no invasiva, para evaluar las condiciones de salud de tapires (Tapirus bairdii) registrados mediante fototrampeo en 2019 y 2020 en sitios conservados de la Reserva de la Biósfera Montes Azules (Rebima) y en dos fragmentos de selva adyacentes (Reservas Ejidales [RE]) con perturbación moderada. En los 40 registros evaluados, los de categoría de condición corporal 3 (regular, n = 22, 55%) y 4 (musculoso, n = 16, 40%) fueron más frecuentes que los de categoría 2 (delgado, n = 2, 5%), 1 (emaciado, n = 0, 0%) y 5 (obeso, n = 0, 0%). No se encontraron diferencias significativas en las frecuencias de registros entre sitios ni con los de un muestreo previo (2015). Se discute el papel de las RE en el mantenimiento del buen estado de salud de los tapires en la Selva Lacandona y el uso del fototrampeo para evaluar su condición corporal de manera no invasiva.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract A modified version of the body condition score, a non-invasive technique, was applied to assess the health of Baird&#8217;s tapirs (Tapirus bairdii) through photo-trapping records obtained in 2019-2020 from pristine sites within Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve (MABR) and two nearby rain forest fragments (ejido reserves [ER]) with moderate disturbance. Among the 40 records assessed, those corresponding to body conditions 3 (regular, n = 22, 55%) and 4 (strong, n = 16, 40%) were more frequent than those of conditions 2 (thin, n = 2, 5%), 1 (emaciated, n = 0, 0%), and 5 (obese, n = 0, 0%). There were no differences in record frequencies between sites, nor were there differences between the records of this study and those from a previous survey (2015) in the study area. The role of RE in maintaining healthy tapirs in the Lacandon Rainforest and the use of photo-trapping to estimate their body condition in a non-invasive way are discussed.]]></p></abstract>
