Su escasa presencia genera pérdida de talento, poco progreso social y una marcada brecha de género, sin olvidar las dificultades a las que se enfrentan para incorporarse al mercado laboral. El objetivo del artículo fue estudiar las percepciones que tienen las mujeres STEM de reciente egreso de un Instituto Tecnológico Federal, en la Ciudad de México, con respecto a los retos y discriminación en su campo laboral, violencia de género, su sentir sobre trabajar en campos masculinizados y su visión de la maternidad. Se entrevistó a 14 mujeres STEM egresadas de un instituto tecnológico activas en el mercado laboral (de seis meses a ocho años). Se encontró que el ingreso al mercado de trabajo ha sido complicado para las mujeres egresadas de carreras STEM dado que los puestos de trabajo favorecen a los varones, que son quienes reciben mejores oportunidades.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In Mexico, only three out of 10 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professionals are women. Their low presence generates a loss of talent, little social progress, and a marked gender gap, in addition to the difficulties they face to enter the labor market. The objective of this article was to study the perceptions that STEM women, recently graduated from a Federal Technological Institute, have regarding challenges and discrimination in their work field, gender violence, their feelings about working in masculinized fields, and their vision of motherhood. To this end, 14 STEM females currently active in the labor market were interviewed. It was found that entering into the job market has been challenging for women graduates of STEM fields, since job positions tend to favor males, who are the ones receiving better opportunities.]]></p></abstract>
