El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar los plaguicidas más vendidos y utilizados en una región del norte de Nayarit, México, para evaluar su potencial impacto sobre el ambiente. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo. Mediante cuestionarios estructurados, se recabó información de establecimientos de venta de plaguicidas y se contabilizaron envases vacíos de centros de acopio primario (CAP) localizados en la zona de estudio. De igual forma, se recolectaron envases vacíos abandonados en parcelas y caminos agrícolas de la zona. Se estimó el cociente de impacto ambiental (CIA) por ingrediente activo (IA) y en campo (CIAc). De acuerdo con los resultados, los plaguicidas de mayor venta fueron la cipermetrina, el fenvalerato y el metamidofos. Los envases vacíos en los CAP revelan que el fomesafeno, la cipermetrina y el metamidofos son los IA mayormente utilizados. Mientras que los envases abandonados en parcelas y caminos agrícolas incluyen cipermetrina, trifluralina y terbufós. Los valores del CIA para los plaguicidas de uso común oscilaron entre 18.8 (bajo) y 66.0 (alto). La aplicación del modelo CIAc sobre el principal cultivo en la zona, confirma que el manejo químico de plagas utilizado podría generar impactos considerables, principalmente sobre el componente ecológico. El uso combinado de estos indicadores (CIA y CIAc) proporciona una buena aproximación del impacto ambiental generado por el uso de plaguicidas en la zona.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Pesticides are chemical compounds used to control pests. Their use is mainly focused on agriculture. This work aimed to identify the most sold and used pesticides in a region of northern Nayarit, Mexico and evaluate their possible environmental impact. A descriptive study was carried out. Through structured questionnaires, information was collected from pesticide sales establishments and empty containers from primary collection centers (PCC) located in the study area were counted. Likewise, empty containers abandoned in plots and agricultural roads in the area were collected. The Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ) was estimated by active ingredient (AI) and in the field (EIQf). According to the results, the first places in sales are occupied by cypermethrin, fenvalerate, and methamidophos. The empty containers in the PCC unveil fomesafen, cypermethrin and methamidophos as the most commonly used AIs. Meanwhile, the containers abandoned in agricultural plots and roads include cypermethrin, trifluralin and terbufos. EIQ values for commonly used pesticides ranged from 18.8 (low) to 66.0 (high). The application of the EIQf model on the main crop in the area confirms that the chemical pest management used could generate considerable impacts, mainly on the ecological component. The combined use of these indicators (EIQ and EIQf) provides a good approximation of the environmental impact generated by the use of pesticides in the area.]]></p></abstract>
