La Finalidad del presente estudio es la de resumir los efectos de la erupción y analizar la respuesta y actitud de la población al evento volcánico. El impacto más notable fue provocado por la caída de cenizas que causó irritación en garganta y ojos de los pobladores y que afectó, esencialmente, como consecuencia de ingerencia de cenizas y cubierta de los pastos, al ganado, provocando su muerte. La población evacuó en forma temporal los poblados más cercanos al volcán. La reducción de riesgos de eventos volcánicos es posible mediante un programa integrativo de vigilancia volcánica, adiestramiento de observadores locales y estudio geológico del volcán para pronosticar futuras actividades.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Volcan Sabancaya, of the Central Andes in Perú, is in intermitent activity since 1988, with a period of high intensity during the months of May and June 1990. The aim of this paper is to describe the eruption effects and to assess the local population response and attitude toward the volcanic event. The major impact of the ashfall was on cattle; vegetation was covered by ash and eaten by cows an sheep, causing the death of more than one hundred animals. Dust particles of ash caused irritation on eyes and throat of local people. Volcanic hazards can be reduced by an integrated programme of monitoring volcanic activity, training local observers and geological studies on the volcan history in order to estimate the likelihood of their future occurrence.]]></p></abstract>

<body><![CDATA[<p align"justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El volc&aacute;n Sabancaya,  situado en los Andes Centrales del Per&uacute;, se encuentra en actividad eruptiva  intermitente desde 1988, con un periodo de mayor intensidad  registrado en los meses de mayo y junio de 1990.</font></p>     <p align"justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">La Finalidad del  presente estudio es la de resumir los efectos de la erupci&oacute;n y analizar la  respuesta y actitud de la poblaci&oacute;n al evento volc&aacute;nico.</font></p>     <p align"justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">El impacto m&aacute;s notable fue provocado por la ca&iacute;da de cenizas que caus&oacute; irritaci&oacute;n en  garganta y ojos de los pobladores y que afect&oacute;, esencialmente, como  consecuencia de ingerencia de cenizas y cubierta de los pastos, al ganado,  provocando su muerte.
