El proceso de degradación es relativamente rápido al principio, pero pierde fuerza gradualmente y no cesa hasta que el cono es nivelado por completo y desaparece del paisaje. Se aplicó un modelo por computadora para simular la degradación de conos de escoria. El modelo toma como dato inicial las coordenadas de puntos específicos que definen el perfil central de un cono joven. El algoritmo de erosión a través del cual se obtiene la simulación consiste en un proceso de filtrado que se aplica en forma repetitiva para obtener una secuencia, de perfiles que corresponden a etapas sucesivas de erosión.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The volcanic cones known as cinder cones but better described as scoria cones, usually appear in swarms forming volcano fields. They are the smallest type of volcanoes which once unaclive start being degraded by erosion, if we do not consider those that can be buried by material ejected from later nearby cones. The process of degradation is relatively fast at the beginning and gradually loses power, but does not stop until the cone is completely leveled and erased from the landscape. A computer model was applied to simulate the degradation of scoria cones. The model requires as input data the coordinates of specific points that define the central profile of a young cone. The erosion algorithm through which the simulation is done consists of a filtering process applied repitedly to obtain a sequence of profiles corresponding to successive stages in erosion.]]></p></abstract>

Postal 20&#150;850, 01000 M&eacute;xico, D.F.</i></font></p>  	    <p>&nbsp;</p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2"><b>Resumen</b></font></p>  	    <p align="justify"><font face="verdana" size="2">Los conos volc&aacute;nicos conocidos como conos ciner&iacute;ticos o m&aacute;s propiamente, conos de escoria, aparecen por lo general en enjambres formando campos de volcanes; son el tipo m&aacute;s peque&ntilde;o de estas geoformas, que una vez inactivos empiezan a degradarse por erosi&oacute;n si no se tienen en cuenta los que pueden ser sepultados por erupciones posteriores de volcanes cercanos. El proceso de degradaci&oacute;n es relativamente r&aacute;pido al principio, pero pierde fuerza gradualmente y no cesa hasta que el cono es nivelado por completo y desaparece del paisaje. Se aplic&oacute; un modelo por computadora para simular la degradaci&oacute;n de conos de escoria. El modelo toma como dato inicial las coordenadas de puntos espec&iacute;ficos que definen el perfil central de un cono joven.
