En agroecosistemas comerciales, las fuentes de carbohidratos están limitadas durante periodos diferentes del ciclo de cultivo, por lo que esos recursos deberían incorporarse para favorecer la presencia, permanencia y actividad de parasitoides. El objetivo del estudio presente fue evaluar diferentes suplementos y la planta Lobularia maritima (Linnaeus, 1753) Desv. (Brassicaceae) como fuente de alimento de Diadegma insulare (Cresson, 1865) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) en laboratorio y campo. En laboratorio, los carbohidratos incrementaron la probabilidad de supervivencia de D. insulare (X2 6= 793, P &#8804; 0.0001), en comparación con las proteínas y el testigo (agua); con fructosa, el 75 % de los individuos sobrevivieron por más de 22 días, mientras que con agua o proteínas el 100 % de los individuos murió antes del sexto día. En campo, el nivel de parasitismo en lotes donde se aplicó fructosa fue casi el doble (82 %) en comparación con el testigo (42 %), se registraron diferencias significativas en la cantidad total de parasitoides emergidos (F5,24 =3.35, P = 0.0194). Los resultados sugieren alto potencial en el uso de suplementos alimenticios en programas de control biológico de P. xylostella.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY Access to carbohydrates is essential for parasitoids to manifest their reproductive potential in the field. In commercial agroecosystems, carbohydrate sources are limited at different periods during the crop cycle, so these resources should be provided to favor the presence, permanence and activity of parasitoids. This study aimed to evaluate different supplements and the plant Lobularia maritime (Linnaeus, 1753) Desv. (Brassicaceae) as a food source for Diadegma insulare (Cresson, 1865) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) in the laboratory and field. In laboratory, carbohydrates increased the survival probability of D. insulare (X2 6 = 793, P &#8804; 0.0001), compared to proteins and the control (water); with fructose, 75 % of the individuals survived for more than 22 days, while with water or protein, 100 % of the individuals died before the sixth day. In the field, the level of parasitism in plots where fructose was applied was almost double (82 %) compared to the control (42 %), and significant differences were recorded in the total number of parasitoids emerged (F5,24 = 3.35, P = 0.0194). Results suggest a high potential for using food supplements in biological control programs for P. xylostella.]]></p></abstract>
