El objetivo de esta investigación fue estudiar los cambios que genera la poda en el comportamiento vegetativo y reproductivo del cacao. La fase experimental se realizó en fincas de productores del municipio de Chigorodó, departamento de Antioquia, Colombia, durante 2016. Se eligieron los clones CCN 51 e ICS 95, de ocho años, los cuales recibieron los tratamientos de poda de altura (-h), poda base (b), poda base menos 25 % de área foliar (AF) (b - 25 %), base menos 50 % de AF (b - 50 %) y base menos 75 % de AF (b - 75 %) del dosel; estos fueron dispuestos en un diseño completamente al azar con cinco tratamientos de poda y cuatro repeticiones; cada árbol fue considerado como unidad experimental. Se midió el índice de área foliar (IAF), número de flores y frutos, peso fresco de cáscara, placenta, grano fermentado y seco; además, se determinó el índice de mazorca (IM) y de grano (IG). Se realizó un análisis de varianza y una prueba de medias de Tukey (P &#8804; 0.05). En CCN 51 el IAF presentó diferencias significativas entre tratamientos a los 65 y 245 días después de la poda (ddp), y en ICS 95 a los 169 ddp, el IAF en el tratamiento (-h) fue de 3.8 para CCN 51 a los 245 ddp y de 3.7 para ICS 95 a los 169 ddp. El número de frutos y la producción fueron mayores en los tratamientos (-h) y (b-25 %) en CCN 51, mientras que en el clon ICS 95 sobresalieron los tratamientos (-h) y (b). La cantidad de grano seco por árbol con el tratamiento (-h) en el clon CCN 51 fue de 4.7 kg y en ICS 95 fue de 1.6 kg. El IM y el IG no presentaron diferencias significativas entre los tratamientos en ambos clones.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[SUMMARY Pruning is a common practice in cocoa production systems; however, there is uncertainty about the time and the way to carry it out to ensure the greatest benefit for the farmer. The objective of this research was to study the changes that pruning generates on vegetative and reproductive behavior of cocoa. The experimental phase was conducted in farms of the municipality of Chigorodó, Antioquia, Colombia, during 2016. Eight years old clones CCN 51 and ICS 95 were chosen; they received the treatments of pruning height (-h), base pruning (b), base pruning minus 25 % leaf area (LA) (b - 25 %), base minus 50 % LA (b - 50 %) and base minus 75 % LA (b - 75 %) of the canopy; these were arranged in a completely randomized design with five pruning treatments and four replications; each tree was considered as an experimental unit. The leaf area index (LAI), number of flowers and fruits, fresh weight of peel, placenta, fermented and dry grain were measured. In addition, pod index (PI) and grain index (GI) were also determined. An analysis of variance and a Tukey test (P &#8804; 0.05) were performed. In CCN 51, the LAI showed significant differences between treatments at 65 and 245 days after pruning (dap), and in ICS 95 at 169 dap, the LAI in the treatment (-h) was 3.8 for CCN 51 at 245 dap and 3.7 for ICS 95 at 169 dap.
