Con el propósito de lograr posteriormente su registro, 20 variedades de jamaica mejoradas genéticamente, cultivadas en los estados mexicanos de Nayarit, Colima, Puebla y Oaxaca, fueron analizadas en términos de su composición proximal, contenido de fibra dietética (FD), polifenoles extraíbles (PE), no extraíbles (PNE) y actividad antioxidante (AOX). De acuerdo con las características anteriores se seleccionaron las variedades con mejor perfil por medio de estadística multivariada. Se observó una amplia variabilidad en la composición química de los cálices donde destacó el elevado contenido de proteína (16 %) en la variedad UAN 12-1, el bajo contenido de lípidos en Negra Quiviquinta (0.06 %) y 40 % en promedio de FD para todas las variedades. A partir del análisis de conglomerados jerárquico se obtuvieron 12 grupos con características distintivas que pueden ser usadas como descriptores. El grupo que destacó por su contenido de compuestos bioactivos (PE+PNE) y AOX fue el formado por las variedades 2Q3, UAN6-1, Puebla Precoz y UAN 12-1. Las variedades estudiadas pueden contribuir notablemente en un programa de mejoramiento de la jamaica y colocarla en un mercado más competitivo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: Roselle (H. sabdariffa L) is a crop with great exploitation potential because of the bioactive compounds present in calyces. With the ultimate aim of registration, twenty genetically improved roselle varieties grown in the Mexican states of Nayarit, Colima, Puebla and Oaxaca were analyzed in terms of proximal composition, dietary fiber (DF) content, extractable (EP) and non-extractable polyphenols (NEP), and antioxidant activity (AOX). According to the aforementioned characteristics, multivariate statistical analysis was performed to select varieties with the best profile. Large variability was observed in the chemical composition of the calyces which was highlighted by the high protein content (16 %) in UAN 12-1, low lipid content (0.06 %) in Negra Quiviquinta and 40 % DF content as an average for all varieties. From hierarchical cluster analysis, 12 groups were identified with distinctive features that can be used as descriptors. The group constituted by the varieties 2Q3, UAN6-1, Puebla Precoz and UAN 12-1 because of its bioactive compounds (EP+NEP) and AOX content. The studied varieties can significantly contribute to a roselle breeding program and boost it into a more competitive market.]]></p></abstract>
